Byron Clinic offers a private, trusting, safe and confidential service.
At Byron Clinic Byron Bay we support the concept that unresolved developmental trauma (childhood trauma or complex trauma) is a fundamental cause of many long term issues including
eating disorders (i.e. anorexia, bulimia, overweight and obesity), self harming, drug and alcohol abuse or dependence, problem gambling, addictions, depression and anxiety.
We support the perception that severe developmental trauma can alter the very chemistry and physiology of the brain, often culminating in rigid and self
destructive thinking processes. Unresolved trauma can also strongly influence the way we experience grief, loss and pain.
A number of risk factors make people susceptible to emotional and psychological trauma they can include an unstable or unsafe developmental environment, repeated patterns of damaging interactions between parent(s),
separation from parent(s), being adopted, sexual, emotional, physical or verbal abuse, domestic violence, neglect, abandonment, and bullying.
Often when trauma remains unresolved, a fundamental sense of fear and helplessness
permeates every aspect of life, underlining a negative way of interacting within your environment. Setting the stage for a vulnerability to further trauma and frequently resulting in maladaptive coping behaviours. These behaviours are
often a subconscious means of relieving anxiety and stress; they are often destructive and harmful. They can include eating disorders (including anorexia, bulimia, overweight and obesity), self harming,
drug and alcohol abuse, problem gambling, addictions, depression and anxiety.
