Self-harm
Byron Clinic offers a private, trusting, safe and confidential service.

A number of Australians use self-inflicted physical violence as a means of coping with overwhelming feelings and emotions. Many report that self-harm or self-mutilation is the only way they can feel their emotions, self-harm can bring a sense of relief. Self-harm is not considered a suicide attempt although there is an increased risk; to the extent that incidents of self-harm are found in 40–60% of suicides.

At Byron Clinic, Byron Bay we support the concept that unresolved developmental trauma (complex trauma) is a fundamental cause of many issues surrounding self-harm and self-mutilation.

Statistically most people who self-injure or self-mutilate are women between the ages of 13 and 30, although from our experience neither age, gender or economic factors differentiate this group. At Byron Clinic, Byron Bay psychotherapy remains a vital component of treatment, helping put things into perspective and developing balance and stability. Complementary therapies are integrated into the treatment plan to develop alternate ways of coping during difficult times and to support enduring change.
